Love is friendship that has caught fire.
It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence,
sharing and forgiving.
It is loyalty through good and bad times.

It settles for less than perfection and makes

allowances for human weaknesses. — Ann Landers

Dear CAL Gals,

I’m looking out my window and realizing that there has been snow on the ground now for about 2 months. Despite the starkness it is almost time to start thinking spring at Bizarre Bazaar. I know that Joyce and Cindy are planning to preside over their final team leader meeting Wednesday, February 10. They plan to retire in June so the next one will be in the capable hands of Cherie Warber and Diane Arrants.

A week from Sunday is Valentine’s Day and would have been my 40th anniversary. I wouldn’t advise anyone to get married on Valentine’s Day. It does make it impossible for your husband to forget your anniversary, but the restaurants, hotels, etc. are booked up early. We only chose it because it was the closest Saturday to the time we could leave work to go on a honeymoon. That is another story. Bill worked for United Airlines and we had planned to go to Hawaii. The flights were totally booked so he rented a small plane and flew us down to the Furnace Creek Inn in Death Valley. It was very posh, but still not Hawaii. The worst was that for 36 years every time someone asked where we went on our honeymoon I had to say, “Death Valley.” They would always laugh thinking I was making a comment about marriage.

Last weekend I sat in the dark most of the time. On Friday night I went to Spokane to see “The Book of Mormon” with a long long time friend that lives in the city and who had an extra ticket. It is very funny, and has a really melodic score. On Saturday and Sunday Cindy Chenault and I spent a few hours on each day at the Panida watching the Oscar nominated shorts and documentaries. By the time that was over we couldn’t remember what day it was. I must say, while the 14 films we saw excellent, there was no comic relief. The ticket price should have included a prescription for Zoloft.

I can’t believe that the board is making plans that bring us up to June, and that brings with it the end of my term as president. I’m not ready! It went too fast. Go get your calendars and jot down these dates:  February 10 at 10:00 a.m. is the team leader meeting; March 19, is Tour d’Thrift which is a very busy day at BizBaz; and April 12, is the spring luncheon.

I’ll see you at the meeting on February 17. Foster Cline (and Hermie's husband) will be our speaker for our program.

Yours,
Sherry
