“Optimism is going after Moby Dick in a row boat
and taking the tartar sauce with you.”

(Thanks Dixie for passing this along.)

March always makes me optimistic! Not only have I gratefully lived another year, but the month makes me feel that spring is right around the corner. I have learned after 15 years in Sandpoint to temper my expectations because, what I used to define as spring really doesn’t happen here for two more months. So, while I have reined in my expectations, I can still see the end. There are little signs of things to come: the geese are pairing off, there is no snow on the ground, I have spent a sunny day or two picking up 6 weeks worth of doggie doo-doo, I wear a coat to ward off rain and not cold, and Safeway has daffodil bunches for $2.99. It’s all good!

At the last board meeting I realized that this is the last meeting before summer for which Mary Sturgis had to arrange a guest speaker. We have no meeting in April because we have the spring luncheon instead, in May introduce our grant recipients, and in June we meet some of our scholarship recipients. By the way, Dave Sturgis will be speaking on March 16 about biking for a cause. Good grief, the year has flown by.

I have a correction from my last message to you all. I spoke about the senior center’s planned craft fair. I had the wrong times so please make note of this:

The fair is at the senior center March 18 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, March 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Mark your calendars so you can go by and help make this a success.

Those of you who take the Bee may have read the front-page story about firefighter, Nathan Colby who donned cold-water gear to save a dog trapped in a partially submerged car. Firefighter Colby is the grandson of our own Kay Deubel. I bet she is proud.

Jerry and Pat Lewis have made a really generous contribution to CAL. They are donating 5 tickets to “42nd Street” in Spokane for Saturday, March 26. There are 3 front-row tickets and 2 tickets in row S. The money for the sale of these tickets will go to CAL. Pat has suggested $60 for each front row ticket and $50 for row S. Think about having a lovely big city weekend in Spokane: dinner and a show and an overnight if you want. The tickets are a bargain for you and a boon for CAL. Contact me if you are interested either on my cell or via email.

I noticed that Easter items are appearing rapidly in Bizarre Bazaar and there are some darling things. Head on down and check it out. I look forward to seeing you on March 16 for our next general meeting. Meanwhile, I’m wishing you a joyous end of winter.

And don't forget the Spring Luncheon on April 12! Bring your check and sign up at the March General Meeting.

By the way, Happy Anniversary! This month marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of Bizarre Bazaar, Sandpoint’s premier Upscale Resale Shop.

Yours,
Sherry
