September News

Dear Volunteers,

Ladies and Robert, you ROCK! This summer has been the best ever (August income was a stellar $24,748.77) and it is because of those of you who braved the heat, smoke and, yes the traffic and torn up roads, to come in and share your precious time with Bizarre Bazaar. There are not enough “thank you's” to let you know how much you are appreciated. Your participation is what has made our special little shop so successful.

It’s hard to believe that it is September already, with leaves turning color, and the CAL year is beginning again. Now that the visitor population is dwindling, and the locals are getting back to real life, we hope we will see more of you wonderful volunteers at Bizarre Bazaar. On-line sign-up is gaining usage and is an easy way to get on the schedule (though you are always welcome to just drop in when you have a little extra time, it's not necessary if to schedule if you happen to be in the area and want to help). But we still need to have the shifts as fully staffed as possible. And don’t forget to use the online volunteer calendar to schedule (this link will take you to the Active Volunteer Signup lists without having to log in, where you can select the month, day, week and shift). It’s easy!!

Your team leaders have been going through training on how to help you sign up, so if you still feel uncomfortable with the on-line calendar, just contact one of them for help. The calendar posted at the shop is in a slightly different format, but our new Volunteer Coordinator (the fabulous Marnie Easly) is doing everything in her power to facilitate the transition as have been our teaching team of Karen Hanna and Robbie Gleason. You can still sign up at BB (it just looks a little different) and  Marnie (970-596-6242) will add your name to the on the on-line schedule. This makes it so much easier for team leaders to see who they will be working with and whether they need more volunteers for shifts. AND, if for some reason you need to cancel or reschedule, on-line is much easier. (Just remember that if you do cancel, please let your team leader know and try to find a substitute.)

This is a time of year that we sign-up new members. We love adding new faces to our group and hope that when you see them at meetings, CAL functions or volunteering at BB, you embrace their newness and welcome them into the fold. And on that note, we will be offering New Member Training on Wednesday, September 26th at 1:00 p.m. and Thursday, October 11th at 9:00 a.m. Any other member who wants a refresher course is welcome, too. Contact Diane Arrants ( or Cherie Warber ( to sign up.

Even though the garage sale “season” is coming to an end, we are still getting incredible donations. The “Move Your Treasures” team (Dixie Stansell) has been working overtime all summer gathering incredible items for us to sell. With that being said, we really need sorters, preppers and pricers to help get these treasures on the floor, so come on down and give a hand. We also desperately need helpers to “recycle” the items we can not use. Marilyn Haddad, who has headed up this team for some time, is asking that any one passing by the pile of outgoing donations grab a few bags or boxes and help them on their way. There is a list of places where we donate or give Marilyn (208-255-2331) a call if you permanently want to join the team.

More news……we now have a recycle trash bin (it’s blue, on wheels and out near the big dumpster). Please use this for cans, clean glass, clean paper and plastic bottles (any plastic with a triangle embossed on it). Cardboard is too bulky, and boxes can be recycled at Pacific Iron and Metal. Please, no food items or other dirty or soiled items in the recycle bin. It will be picked up every other Tuesday. This is a great place to toss all the wrapping paper that donated items come wrapped in that we don’t reuse in the shop.

Another great big addition! Jaime Erdt (Children’s Department) has taken the time to make us a new “Pricing Guide” notebook. Not only has she simplified the pricing guide, she has alphabetized the label list that makes it easy to work with. When you look at a label (i.e.: Chico’s) you can look up “C” and the guide will let you know what pricing category to place it.  There are also blank spaces under each letter to add a “new label”. This is a work in progress, so use it, give us feedback and we will continue to improve and make it even easier to use. Please, do not remove the guide from the pricing station.

And the next time you come into Bizarre Bazaar, take a long look around at the fabulous fall decorations on the tops of display closets, created by our own Judy Dabrowski and Rose Chaney. What fun to see how their imaginations ran wild! Thank you, ladies.

Diane and I look forward to seeing all of you at the September General Meeting and, as always, we look forward to seeing you at Bizarre Bazaar.
One thousand thank you’s to all who made this summer so successful. You are amazing!

In appreciation for all you do,
Diane and Cherie
