Dear Volunteers,

Welcome to the “Roaring Twenties”! It sure has come in with a roar with a years’ worth of snow in two weeks. Many heartfelt thanks to those volunteers who have braved the wintery weather to come and keep Bizarre Bazaar open. Your dedication and perseverance has been noted, with appreciation.

We still could use more sweaters, flannel and woolen clothing items in both Men’s and Women’s. Household items and thriller/mystery books are also needed.

Speaking of Men’s clothing, Sam Shields and Lori Neptune are pre-pricing season-appropriate clothing and placing on the ironing rack. Once they are ironed, they can go upstairs. The reason for pre-pricing is to ensure that season-appropriate clothes go out with consistent pricing.

And not to beat a dead horse, pricing in general is an on-going situation. Thanks to those of you who use the Clothing Pricing Guide (the stellar creation of Jaimie Erdt!). Please remember that every item going on the floor needs a price tag (except for books, CDs, DVDs, VHS and small picture frames). Volunteers straightening racks are finding clothing, hats and scarves and household items without price tags. The ever-inclusive sign “All Scarves $1.00” is a non-player as it is too confusing for customers and cashiers alike.

New to this space: A little tip to help you when redressing mannequins or replenishing the window. Each month on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning of the fourth week, a magnificent team sweeps into Bizarre Bazaar and not only does markdowns, but sometimes does a little changing around (and no, it is not designed to confuse you!). We also decide on a new “Color Theme” or sometimes just a theme to create a mood. This month, the mannequins and window will be featuring red, pink and white for Valentine’s Day. We will also create a “Bridal Boutique” in keeping with the romantic season of marriage proposals. Now when you redress a mannequin, you know to keep within the color theme (and of course, please remember to use small sized clothing).

Snow certainly can not keep a good volunteer down, nor has it kept the customers or those who donate at home. This week alone, we have received some monster donations from folks thinking it is time to do a little Marie Kondo job and divesting themselves of those things that no longer bring them joy. That means we need YOU to spend some time at Bizarre Bazaar and help make sure these donations are ready to go home with someone else to bring them joy. Sign ups are easy and of course, there is always your team leader or Marnie Easly to help you find that perfect day or two (or more).

And please, please take a few minutes to sign up for the rest of January! We need you.

January, February & March calendars are available online now!

And one last reminder for these dark afternoons, especially with snow on the ground. Please try to leave at the same time and look out for each other. It is too easy to slip and fall. Your safety is of paramount concern to us all. Be careful!

Diane and I thank you again for all you do for Bizarre Bazaar.

In great appreciation,

Diane and Cherie
