Dear CAL members,

Our fall season has been a record for rainy days, but the sunshine today was delightful after the rain. The playgrounds were full of children on Friday - blue sky and a holiday
from school made for happy little faces.

Our New Member Tea was held on October 31st. Dottie Johnson’s home provided a warm, welcoming venue for this traditional event. It seems we women come to CAL looking for friendship and then find so much more. Thank you Dottie Johnson, Robbie Gleason, Rose Chaney, Judy Dabrowski, Lin Otey, Joanna Fuchs and everyone else who participated. Each new member received a lovely rose from our Board. The pictures of the Tea are available on the Photo Albums List on the bulletin or via the Member Photo Album link on the menu bar of the home page.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. More food, more wine, more food. I do love the holiday season.

Speaking of holidays, Christmas is coming to BB this Sunday. It's a magical day where many hands transform our store into a fairyland. We are expecting a blizzard of snowflakes, thanks to you who made them and Rose Chaney and Judy Dabrowski.

This month's recipe is one Tom and I enjoyed for the first time some 30 years ago. It was served at The Grey Whale Inn, Fort Bragg, California. They were kind enough to share and it became a favorite of ours. Hope you try it.

Sour Cream Kuchen

1/2 c. butter, softened
1 package yellow or lemon cake mix
1/2 c. flaked coconut
2 1/2 c. sliced apples, pears, or peaches (we love canned peaches)
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. sour cream
1 egg

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Cut butter into cake mix ( dry ) until crumbly. Mix in coconut. Pat mixture lightly into un-greased 13x9 inch pan. Build up edges slightly.

Bake 10 minutes. Arrange fruit on warm crust. Mix sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle on fruit. Blend sour cream and egg, drizzle over fruit. Topping will not cover fruit completely. Bake 20-30 minutes or until edges are light brown. Do not over bake. Cool and enjoy.

Finally, we have had sad news. Long-time CAL member Carolyn Marshall has died following a severe accident falling from a ladder. She had been in intensive care for some time, but died of complications. Condolences can be sent to:
