Dear CAL members,

Traditionally the holiday season begins with Thanksgiving. In our home it begins with Halloween. I'm certainly happy the chocolate candy is finally gone. However, pumpkin pie and spiced pumpkin creamer has become a staple. With Christmas just around the corner, I had a California friend remind me to dare not turn on my outside lights until after Thanksgiving. He jokingly said for every light I turn on a reindeer dies. I won’t be sharing this with my grandchildren, however.

I discovered a new vegetable at the store Friday. I thought it would be a fun addition to our Thanksgiving table decoration, a conversation piece. Curiosity got the better of me and I steamed it, poured melted butter over it, salt and pepper and fed it to my husband, Tom. With no expression, he just said, "try it”. It is fabulous! A new addition to our feast. It is Romanesco, a part of the broccoli family. Try it, You'll Like it!

Thank you to our ladies who took a star from our Senior Christmas Giving Tree. Our gifts mean so much to our seniors. BB is a wonderful place to find your gifts. Please deliver your gift packages to BB no later than December 3rd; attach your star securely to your gift. Thanks again to Sherry Fulton and Esther Inselman for leading this effort.

The Board has a proposed By-law change; the general membership must approve any change to the bylaws. Please read and be ready to vote at our January general meeting.

Article Vlll, Section l The Community Grants Committee shall be responsible for the evaluation of all requests for philanthropic assistance received by the organization. A Scholarship (sub) Chairman shall be appointed to form a Scholarship Committee to evaluate scholarship applications. The scholarship chairman shall hold a position on the Board.

Thank you for your consideration.

Have a Blessed and Beautiful Thanksgiving.
