BIZARRE BAZAAR FALL NEWS

Dear Volunteers,

From the last couple of days, it certainly looks like Fall has truly arrived. However, in spite of the rainy weather and annoying road construction, our customers are still finding us and spending time (and money!) at Bizarre Bazaar. So you know what that means, don’t you? It means that we need you and your great smiles and willing hands to pop in and spend a shift or two with us. We have such amazing donations coming in and can always use a few extra hands to get them ready and out on the floor. We really want to sell lots since it’s less than a month until we sparkle up the place with Christmas decorations. And do we have an amazing amount of Christmas items to put out! The dynamic duo of Rose Chaney and Judy Dabrowski are feverishly toiling (like little elves) in the back room organizing, pricing and getting ready for the decorating party on November 6th.

Now, hold on to your collective hats, but all your hard work is definitely paying off…. the revenue for last month wasTada…drum roll, maestro….a whopping $19,006.85!!  You read that correctly. Nice going ladies and Robert. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Okay, we have the celebrations finished. It’s time to cover a few things. Sigh, price tags. There is still some confusion on how to write out a tag and where to attach it. There are reference sheets at the pricing table, so please, write the size and price only on the top half of the tag. The bottom part is only for markdowns. (There are two samples at the pricing table). The tags are placed in the left underarm seam (please) on dresses, tops, coats, anything that has an underarm seam. On pants and skirts, the tag goes on the left side seam at the waistband. (Again, there are pictures at the pricing table.) The only exception is with leather or very delicate fabrics in which case the tag may go in the label in the neck area. The needles on the guns aren’t always the sharpest and placing the tag just anywhere but a seam may leave a hole, making the garment unsaleable.

Please make sure when putting any item, clothing or otherwise out, to make sure it is priced. A random survey the other day found several items with no price tags. Our customers deserve to know the cost of something and your colleagues sure appreciate not having to hunt down the price.

We get a lot of wonderful feedback from our customers on how clean and organized the shop looks and how nice it smells. It makes the difference between looking like a thrift store or a more upscale store! Let’s all work together to keep up that impression! Make sure the fitting rooms are empty and unwanted clothes are rehung in the proper area (watch the color on those tags to notice if the item is full price, ½ price or $2.00 item) and the clothes on rounders are buttoned and arranged by colors. It really makes a difference.

A number of you expressed an interest in attending an auction with Robert, which he welcomes! It will give you an opportunity to see what items sell best at the auctions (and maybe participate yourselves!). The best auction is the Owens Auction in Spokane, which is once a month & Robert plans to attend the weekend of October 15-16. He doesn’t usually go to the Saturday sale as it is mostly ordinary items. Sunday is the "good stuff": antiques, unusual, rare, art, first edition and autographed books, coins, guns, jewelry, etc. This auction will have oriental items, carnival and art glass, huge taxidermy stuff, antique furniture, plus Patty Duke estate items.

Anyone who wishes to go him with is more than welcome. Three or possibly four people can go with Robert in his vehicle, with the following understanding:
  1. He leaves Sandpoint at 7:15 a.m.to obtain a good parking space, shorten entry time, a good seat & extra time to examine items.
  2. He will stay all day because of interest in some personal purchases, so he plans to be at the sale until after 2:00 or 3:00 p.m.
  3. The auction has a small snack bar and two restrooms available. The sale is fun and definitely a learning experience. If you wish to follow Robert or come later that is okay, but parking becomes difficult when others start arriving at noon.
  4. There are some explanations about the sale process and do’s & dont's of the sale that he would like to cover with you prior to the sale.
  5. Directions: From highway 90 take exit 283B toward Freya and Thor St., turn left onto Thor St. Go to 17th Ave. Owens is on the corner, continue south for one block and turn left at fire station, go about 50 yards turn left into parking lot.
  6. Contact Robert at khqualls2003@yahoo.com, if interested.

Lastly, Diane heard from Liz at "I Saw Something Shiny”, 220 N First Street, that is now creating our “Bling” shirts. Although she is recovering from a surgery, her store is staffed and assorted t-shirt sizes have arrived! If you need a Bling t-shirt, stop in and order one. They are approximately $25 a piece (plus tax)

All of you make a difference! Thank you all for the wonderful contributions you make in sustaining the magic of Bizarre Bazaar.

In great appreciation,
Diane and Cherie
