Dear Volunteers,

It is Christmas at Bizarre Bazaar! The shop is beautiful, thanks to Linda Zinn and her teams of elves.

So many lovely items to deck the halls with. According to the Monday team, Christmas décor just flew out the front door carried by happy, smiling customers.

Now we are begging our members to carefully sort through your Christmas décor and see if you have any wonderful items to donate to the shop.

Speaking of donations, people have not been shy about dropping by at the back door or the front door with their unwanted treasures. Sorters unite! We need you! Be careful and critical of incoming items. As our lovely Joyce Spiller has always advocated, “BE RUTHLESS!”. Upscale resale is our business and we have a reputation to uphold.

Those of you who have been in the back room may have noticed that we have new clothing storage racks. Linens now has more shelves and a larger table. Out-of-season tubs for holidays have been moved closer to the sorting area. Dixie’s craft tub is now under the linens table. These changes were made to create a safer work area and more obvious storage areas.

Here are some tips:

  • Clothing racks are marked with bigger signs.

  • Shoes, hats and handbags are in marked tubs under pants, skirts and dresses. (Shoes must look new!) Please do not just dump something in any bin. Read the signs.

  • Work smart, not hard. Try not to make double work by just dumping things. If it is clothing, hang or fold and put in the appropriate tub or on an incoming rolling rack. Household goods should go on the table under the big mirror. Books should go on the same table, not on the storage shelves. Children’s items go in the bins under the books or in the back, back room.

  • Clean up after yourself. Volunteer Suzette Whipple spends a lot of her time picking up dropped trash on the floor, wiping coffee grounds off the club house counter, lunch crumbs off the table or dumping used grounds out of the coffee maker. Let's make her job easier.

In any business or organization, communication is vital. Especially with fewer volunteers working, it is important to pass on important information. If the next day’s team needs the info, put a note by the iPad or in the till bag. Call them. Call Diane or Cherie. Let volunteers know where you put things if it is an unusual area.

And, speaking of the till bag – Team Leaders and cashiers be careful! Rose Anne Wheatley, our bookkeeper has found several instances of insufficient money in the till bag or in the cash box. If you need change, remember to buy it from the cash box with money from the till. Double check everything when you close out the day.

We have a wonderful group of volunteers from a wonderful group of members. During this time, it is important to not be judgmental of others and to realize everyone is just as tense as you are. Bizarre Bazaar should be considered a safe place to be. A place where you can go, meet friends, talk, laugh and relax. It is all our jobs to make that happen. Please, be kind!

One last thing!

"What do you imagine a baby stroller is doing in the linen section?"
